What are we living and loving for at the moment? The Jones & Co girls share their inside tips on what’s hot and not!
Jen’s List
What is our creative director Jennifer Sampson obsessed with this month?
What I'm loving:
Clare V. I love her aesthetic and bold colour combinations. I’m all for a stripe and colour clashing during winter. I just bought this little Midi Sac bag, I want a clashing strap now….
What I'm coveting:
This ridiculously beautiful little zip-around convertible Fiat 500 with wicker seats. It’s not particularly practical for the Inner West of Sydney in winter with three boys in tow but they could adjust.
What I'm eating:
Brooklyn Boy Bagels — the blueberry kind with cream cheese and raspberry jam. Like the BBB guys say, this combo would never fly in New York but they have also grown to like it since being Sydney side. These guys also make their own kind of custom toppings for bagels like strawberry or jalpeno cream cheese that I give two thumbs up too.
What I'm reading:
Catch and Kill by Ronan Farrow. After listening to the engrossing podcast, this is a deep dive into Harvey Weinstein and how the purveyors of powerful media control the news and how Weinstein remained unaccountable for his actions for so long.
What I'm buying:
Like everyone else I’ve fallen onto the activewear bandwagon during ISO and can’t get off. Nike and Adidas are my jam with some PE Nation thrown in. Nothing compares to the comfort! Will we ever go back to “normal clothes”??
What I'm watching:
I just finished watching The Stranger on Netflix. For me it started really strong and just became quite middling towards to the end. I find that can happen with British drama for some inexplicable reason (hello, Bodygaurd, I mean you)
What I'm listening to:
Bang On Podcast is finally back after a nine month hiatus. I’ve listened to Zan Rowe and Myf Warhurst on Triple J for decades so I love those girls and their take on popular culture and bigger timely issues. Their voices feel so familiar to comforting me and I’m always going away with a reading list to research. Love!
JJ’s List
Next up, it’s our founder Jennifer Jones. What’s on her radar?
What I'm loving:
I’m currently thinking about home renovation and so have done a deep dive into……floors. I’m really feeling Italian terracotta tiles in a herringbone pattern like in Prudence Olivier's amazing house. There is so much inspiration on Gather & Co's website you can lose hours daydreaming. Another option I’m exploring instead of tiled floors is polished concrete like in William Dangar's Bondi home. Who would have thought floor options could take up so much of my time?
What I'm eating:
Dessert! With restrictions lifted we have started doing family Sunday lunches and I’m in charge of dessert. The top two favorites have been Passionfruit, Lemon and Coconut Pudding from Diana Henry’s fantastic Oven to Table book and Donna Hay's Sticky Date Pudding with Butterscotch Sauce. Oink.
What I'm reading:
On these dark and cold winter nights I am really loving tucking into bed early with an Icelandic crime thriller. It’s funny and random but Icelandic writers have a amazing talent of writing excellent crime novels even though the country has one of the lowest crime rates. It’s something to do with their history of storytelling and creating suspense especially during long winters. Two writers I’d recommend are Ragnar Jonasson and Yrsa Sigurdardottir.
What I'm buying:
Amazing knitwear from Spanish label Babaa who deliver worldwide. Their knitwear is meant to last generations, the idea is you pass it down to your children. It comes in one size only and is oversized and cosy. It’s made from local Spanish wool and made with Japanese knitting machines before finished by hand in their factory in Barcelona.
What I'm listening to:
In the car with my four-year-old daughter we’ve been listening to a great series on ABC Kids called Imagine This. It covers really interesting topics, such as “Why do we dream?” and “Is there life in other galaxies?” You’re never too old to find out more about the world we live in!
I’m also doing a lot of cooking during these cold days and there is nothing better than doing it with a glass of red in hand and listening to this French Jazz Cafe playlist. I swear everything tastes better with this music.
