The Jones List is where we celebrate life's small joys! This month, Spring is here and I am feeling all the sunshine from painting my daughter’s room to Sunset Boulevard at the Opera House. Farewell winter and hello to warmer days and bigger smiles. Here’s what I’ve been loving these days. *These Joy Notes are sponsored by the colour yellow! Ready to explore? Let's go!
Everyone please read “The Bee Sting” by Paul Murray. I tried a few times and it didn’t hook me in but then I persevered and within a few chapters was totally married to the fates of Dickie, Imelda, Cass and PJ. It’s the story of a rural Irish family individually going through their own issues especially as Dickie’s car dealership is on the brink of collapse. The stories are intertwined with humour, sadness and a deep sense of humanity and the true actions people take when faced with difficult decisions. Truly great writing.
We painted our daughter’s room in Porter’s Paints Rousillon. A bold choice from an 8-year-old! I love decorating kids’ rooms as you can really go crazy with colour and accessories. We’ve hung a great Slowdown Studios blanket on the wall which looks fantastic against the mustard and gives the room an overall Global Traveller vibe especially teamed with rattan accents like this Kip & Co lamp and a rattan bedside table. I also covered her pinboard with a red check fabric with my new glue gun – why didn’t I buy one of these before?

Talking of yellow I have these Adidas SL 72 on my wish list for summer. I’m aiming for a capsule wardrobe of neutrals, denim and black with bright accessories! Other bright things that have taken my fancy are these amazing hair ties which can double up as bracelets from Hencla in Bondi and this tote bag from The Jacksons

Jen and I recently went to Vietnam and the Philippines on our factory trip. One word of advice if you are travelling an airline where the food served is rather dire. Pack a lunchbox. I did for the first time ever with chewy sourdough sandwiches (the bread is important as you want something that won’t go soggy) some fruit, crackers, jellybeans, some luxe chocolate, a cookie. It does take some planning but when you’re settled with your movie and you open it up you will be 100% happy you did it and aren’t eating some mystery meat airline pie.
I love musical theatre and this weekend went to see Sunset Boulevard with Sarah Brightman. It was brilliant and deserved the standing ovation. I know theatre tickets aren’t cheap but it is so worth it for the lift of the soul! It is on until the 1st of November. You can’t beat the closing line “I’m ready for my close up now Mr. DeMille”
