JJ’S Christmas Guide for the Things People Actually Want

JJ’S Christmas Guide for the Things People Actually Want

Every year I do a Christmas hamper for the girls at work filled with things that I know they’ll use and appreciate. It’s a mix of the practical, a bit of pampering, some fun and a touch of sentimentality. Putting something like this together really makes me think about what people really need this time of year – most of the time it’s things that we can’t buy – someone to help with the Christmas cooking or a day where you get to lie on the beach and read uninterrupted. But when you do need to give something physical here’s my guide to things that people want, use and will appreciate!

Beauty product that they’ll use:

Although a red lipstick from Chanel or an eyeliner from Victoria Beckham may seem glam it’s the hardworking hero’s that you don’t splurge on for yourself that get used daily. For me that’s always a luxe body wash or a higher end sunscreen. I love Aesop’s Geranium body wash which elevates any shower experience and my second favourite is Kit’s mood boosting Wellness Wash.

As it’s always summer during Christmas here a great sunscreen will always be on high rotation. With Choice’s new report out on the SPF level of different brands I will always go to a trusted source like Mecca’s own label. They’ve got a great range including one with a brightening effect.

In the summer heat hair can get a beating so I love a good spray to protect mine. Redken does a great spray that protects and nourishes, and you can even just take it to beach for those post swim/shower moments.

Provisions!

By the time Christmas rolls around all I want to do is eat platters of yummy things and not really have to ”cook cook” if you know what I mean. So tasty condiments, pickles, oils, chips and crackers really float my boat.

I love these potato chips in a can from Spain. Plus our can is still getting used by my daughter for her keepsakes! From this same website you can add some Chili Honey, Pecorino Cheese Biscuits, Bloody Mary Mix and Mango Chutney. Everything to elevate a simple meal.

Other great ideas are amazing Olive Oil, Vinegars or Salt!

Comfies

When was the last time you bought yourself really nice pyjamas? I am still wearing my Qantas set from four years ago (hint hint). Something really lovely to wear when it’s hot is unbeatable. Especially if on holiday you stay in them for a whole morning some days. I love giving lounge sets as it’s also an invitation to rest. My go-to brands are Papinelle (who has a range by Karen Walker) , Marks & Spencer and Stripe and Stare.

Paper Goods

Books always make a good gift. A few years ago I gave the girls “The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse” by Charlie Mackesy which is so beautiful it will make you cry. This year the poetry book “Joy Choose You” by Donna Ashworth would make a lovely gift to dip in and out of. Another book I tend to buy for friends is the Mi Goal yearly planner. I got one this year and it has kept me on track with all my goals from personal to fitness and I love sitting down on a Monday morning and planning my week out.

Baubles!

We all need a little bling to brighten up the day! Bag charms are a great way of adding some interest to even the most simple of totes. I love these from Maison Sabre.

You’ve probably heard me bang on about Hencla before but I swear that is my happy place. I think any of their bracelets would be a great gift but No 56 with it’s sweet tiny croissant charm is just adorable!

The Vessel

I like to package my hampers up in something unusual. These crates by Hay are so great and you definitely use them afterwards.

Otherwise big tote bags or a woven one from The Jacksons would also be a hit!
